Conflicts & Ownership Disclosure

Readers deserve clear context about ownership and interests that could reasonably bear on the Ledger's coverage decisions.

The Sussex Ledger is a publication of The Conscient Group LLC. Editorial work is judged by the standards on this site, and relevant conflicts are disclosed where readers can see them.

How we identify a conflict

A conflict is any financial, ownership, personal, organizational, or political interest that could reasonably lead a reader to question the independence of a specific story or civic page. The appearance of a conflict matters as much as an actual conflict; if in doubt, we disclose and consider editorial safeguards.

Advertising, partnerships, and access

Commercial relationships do not buy editorial control or favorable coverage. A sponsor, advertiser, public agency, source, or platform partner may not approve, delay, or suppress reporting. Access to a public record or meeting does not create a favorable-coverage obligation.

Organizational safeguards

The Sussex Ledger is a public, crawlable news publication.
Paid intelligence
A separate, gated intelligence product does not merge its brand with the public newsroom.

Election firewall
