How it works
Pitch a story
Noticed something in the hallway or the town that nobody has written up? Pitch it. You do not have to cover council or government meetings.
Write about what you know
Your school: teams, clubs, arts and achievements. Events anywhere in the county. Stories of public interest.
Or cover meetings
If you are interested in government, you can cover County Council, planning and zoning, the school board and town meetings. The Ledger will help you read the agendas.
Publish with an editor
A Ledger editor edits every story and fact-checks it against its sources. Where public records exist, the story links to them, so readers can see the documents behind the reporting.
Get paid to cover the meetings that shape your town.
- Students are paid for each meeting they cover
- Pay will follow Delaware wage and youth-employment rules
- Editor review on every piece before it publishes
- Clips you can use for college applications and contest entries

The First State High School Communications Contest
The Delaware Press Association runs this annual statewide student contest. Student writers will be pointed to it. Delaware Press Association contest page.
Published stories count
Published stories count as clips that students can use for college applications and portfolios.
Parents and guardians
A parent or guardian permission step comes before anything is published, so a student's story will not run until that is done.
Ask to be notified
Give us your email and tell us which program you are interested in. The editor will write back with next steps.
